I didn’t reach my target of 30 books this year. But that made me realize that I’d rather read a small number of books and engage with them intimately than breeze through a lot just so I can achieve my target.
Next year, I’ll only read 20 books: 10 fiction and 10 nonfiction. Selected a bunch earlier today and they are as follows:
FICTION
- Demian by Herman Hesse
- Froth on the Daydream by Boris Vian
- Brightfellow by Rikki Ducornet
- The Aleph by Jorge Luis Borges
- The Woman Who Had Two Navels and Tales of the Tropical Gothic by Nick Joaquin
- Hopscotch by Julio Cortazar (Reread the “hopscotch” way)
- The Storyteller by Mario Vargas Llosa
- Leopoldina’s Dream by Silvina Ocampo
- Nights at the Circus by Angela Carter
- The Complete Stories of Leonora Carrington by Leonora Carrington
NONFICTION
- Atomic Habits by James Clear
- Care of The Soul by Thomas Moore
- The Essential Epicurus by Epicurus
- The Artist’s Way at Work: Riding the Dragon by Mark Bryan with Julia Cameron and Catherine Allen
- The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel
- Happy Money by Ken Honda
- The Re-enchantment of Everyday Life by Thomas Moore
- Thinking in Systems: A Primer by Donella H. Meadows
- Emotional Agility: Get Unstuck, Embrace Change and Thrive in Work and Life by Susan David
- Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown
I’ll also be keeping a book journal in order to engage with what I read.
Happy new year.
